Abstract

Since March 2020, K-12 school and higher education leaders have faced an unprecedented crisis that many felt unprepared to handle (Anderson, 2020). Few K-12 or higher education leadership programs focus on crisis management skills, while programs in business and medicine do. This study explored the crisis leadership needs of students in the Walden EdD Academic Residency that occurred in the Spring of 2020 using daily journals and discussion forums. Using content analysis, preliminary findings show much different needs than other natural disasters or crises for educators including impacting learning at a distance, maintaining normalcy, staying in touch with students and staff, and dealing with the personal impact on self and families.
