The Nature and Impact of African National Student Dissertations at an Online University

Abstract
The impact and topics of African national students’ dissertation research had not been studied systematically within online universities. To achieve this understanding, a meta-synthesis study looking at specific components of PhD dissertations of African national students from 2013-2018 was conducted at a large online university. Data were collected from publicly available dissertations. Data were analyzed using a structured coding sheet and translated into descriptive statistics and structured codes. Findings indicate that PhD alumni have conducted sophisticated and significant research in health care and other areas that appear to directly inform policy, future research, and community change.
