Abstract

One of the core values of U.S. society is that everyone has the right to work. For individuals with disabilities, however, this value has been more of a dream than a reality. Individuals with disabilities have substantially higher unemployment rates than those whose are not disabled. According to the President' s Committee on the Employment of People With Disabilities (1992), 31% of people with disabilities were employed or actively seeking employment, wheras more than 78% of Americans without disabilities worked or were actively seeking work (Kaye, 2010).
