Abstract

This chapter defines the problem of adolescent suicide by looking at ethnic differences, methods, risk factors, precipitants, myths, & profiles, & then presents a case study & explores individual, family, & school & community approaches to prevention. The chapter continues with a thorough examination of intervention strategies, including guidelines for identifying, counseling, & managing youth at risk for suicide as well as guidelines for actions to take in the case of attempted or completed suicide. A brief look at adaptations for diversity concludes the chapter. (49 refs)
