Abstract

The article discusses the mechanistic and industrial organization structure called bureaucracy as pioneered by German sociologist Max Weber. noted is that the bureaucratic form of organization routinizes the process of administration the same as the machine routinizes production. Highlighted is the basic idea of management referring to machine bureaucracy which is process of planning, staffing, organizing, directing, and controlling the work effort. Enumerated are a number of pathologies derived from bureaucracies such as the bureaupathic behavior, bureaucratic behavior, and the lack of personal growth.
