Abstract
The influenza virus is a common pathogen that causes many infections and illnesses each year. Pregnant women can experience several complications from such infections, potentially requiring hospitalization and admission into an intensive care unit (ICU). Vaccination efforts are one of the best ways to prevent complications and harm from this virus during pregnancy. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the trivalent inactivated vaccine (TIV) to mitigate the health hazards posed by the virus for pregnant females. Pregnant patients and their families should be educated regarding the protective benefits of vaccination for both the pregnant mother and close relatives. Pregnant patients and families also should be educated on the risks of vaccination and the potential influenza vaccination variation.
