Abstract
Hydrotherapy during labor is a technique where an expecting mother who is in her first stage of labor, immerses herself in warm water. Hydrotherapy is used for non-pharmaceutical pain management and to promote natural childbirth. It provides a better transition from the uterus to the outside environment for the infant. Even though many women desire hydrotherapy, it is available in less than 10% of all maternity facilities. Midwife-led units are four times more likely to offer hydrotherapy than routine obstetric environments. Childbirth educators and healthcare professionals can promote hydrotherapy by conducting research and advocating for its use in their facilities.
