Abstract
Varicose veins are often a problem for older persons, not women in their childbearing years. In addition to emotional discomfort, varicose veins may cause physical discomfort and could lead to ulcerations. This article reviews the pathophysiology of varicose veins, the increased risk during pregnancy, and current treatment modalities for varicose veins during pregnancy.
