Abstract
The process of course development, or the creation of online courses, is both easy and complex. The basic principles are fairly straightforward and easy to understand. They may be even mastered when the components are examined individually. Pulling the disparate pieces involved into the complex whole of development is where the difficulties of mastery might arise. This entry looks at the various components and skills needed to develop courses, particularly online courses. The principles described are generally applicable to all course development. The mastery of development skills is part science and part art. When working as a course developer, it should be clear that the course is for a client and that the client needs to be pleased with the final product.
