Abstract

Patient experience is a key indicator of healthcare quality. In an acute care hospital in Northeast Georgia, intentional rounding is an established practice. Inconsistent communication, variable leadership engagement, and limited accountability are practice gaps that have reduced its effectiveness in improving patient experience outcomes. A comprehensive literature review using PubMed, CINAHL, MEDLINE, and the Cochrane Library yielded 15 peer-reviewed studies that consistently support intentional rounding as an evidence-based strategy for improving patient satisfaction. As the team leader for this Executive Leadership System Improvement Project, I proposed the development of an Evidence-Based, Leader-Driven Intentional Rounding Program Playbook to standardize enhanced rounding practices at the project site. The practice-focused question guiding the project was: Will the development of a program proposal incorporating evidence-based interventions to standardize a leader-driven intentional rounding program be endorsed by organizational leadership to improve the patient experience? Project development included, assessing organizational needs, conducting stakeholder analysis, and developing implementation, budget, evaluation, and sustainability plans. Participants were bedside nurses, nurse leaders, nurse educators and other members of the interprofessional team. The project has the potential to improve Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores and Net Promoter Scores (NPS) for nursing practice, the project promotes consistent patient interactions. It also supports positive social change by fostering equitable, patient-centered care through consistent intentional rounding practices that support responsive care for all patients regardless of background or health status.
