Abstract

A lack of effective strategies to manage multigenerational workforces to increase productivity is a concern for manufacturing sales leaders because it can adversely impact employee morale, productivity, and business success. Grounded in the transformational leadership theory, this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was conducted to explore successful strategies sales leaders in the manufacturing industry use to manage multigenerational workforces to increase productivity. Participants were six sales leaders from companies located in the eastern United States with at least five years of experience managing multigenerational workforces. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and analysis of secondary data as well as studies on similar topics. Through thematic analysis, five key themes were identified: tailored communication styles, fostering workplace culture and inclusivity, customized training and development, adaptive leadership and management approaches, and performance-based productivity measurement. The implications for positive social change include the potential for sales leaders in the manufacturing industry to foster an inclusive workplace by implementing targeted strategies that enhance employee wellbeing, boost engagement, and improve organizational productivity through genuine support and belief in employee success, ultimately increasing satisfaction and strengthening interactions among employees and with customers.
