Abstract

Leadership strategies and decisions can impact the accessibility of mental health services for those seeking services related to anxiety and depression. The impact of readiness of leadership through strategy, implementation, and decision-making was the focus of this study. When the preparedness of an organization is at its peak, it increases the utilization of mental health services among adults, children, and adolescents struggling with anxiety and depression. The problem addressed in this study was how leadership strategies within the behavioral health organization contributed to a lack of collaboration, outreach, and training due to the absence of strategic planning, implementation, and leadership. The Baldridge Excellence Framework was utilized as a performance evaluation tool for a small behavioral health organization. Data collection for this study included the organization's website, financial statements, government websites, marketing materials, leadership questionnaires, live interviews with the leader, and a review of scholarly articles. Recommendations include developing a leadership training program, implementing evidence-based employee training, establishing strategic hiring plans, creating policies and procedures, and implementing community outreach programs. Additional recommendations include ensuring all day-to-day operations are implemented and reviewed to comply with local, state, and federal regulations. This study will contribute to positive social change by providing resources to small behavioral health organizations seeking to grow their organizations, develop their programs, and be successful in the entrepreneurial process.
