Title

Research Literacy: "The" Tool for Promoting Positive Social Change in the (Dis)Information Age?

Streaming Media

Session Type

Plenary Speech

Abstract

In the last decade, we have seen the World Wide Web and other impressive communication technologies that emerged in the Information Age morph into tools that drive social divisiveness, misinformation, and disinformation among our population. Can scientific and research literacy light the way to a common ground and positive social change? Will a rising tide of rational, evidence-based thinking be able to overcome the pressures of a "post-fact" social movement and confront the global challenges facing us today? (36 minutes)

Note: This version is a reprise of the original plenary speech, which was not captured due to technical problems.
