Abstract
This doctoral project evaluated the impact of a staff education program aimed at increasing healthcare workers' awareness of workplace stress dangers among teammates in an outpatient hemodialysis center. The identified practice issue was limited knowledge about the facilitators, adverse outcomes, and resources related to occupational stress in healthcare. Lack of education regarding the risks of work-related stress presents a critical concern in nursing practice, significantly affecting caregiver well-being and patient outcomes. Nurses, particularly in high-pressure environments such as hemodialysis centers, often experience unrecognized and unmanaged emotional and physical demands, leading to chronic stress and burnout. Hemodialysis nurses are especially susceptible to such stress due to the intensity and emotional burden of their roles. The practice-focused question addressed was as follows: Can a nurse-led staff education program on stress reduction improve job satisfaction and reduce burnout in an outpatient hemodialysis center over a 90-day period? The inquiry explored the effectiveness of targeted, nurse-driven interventions in enhancing emotional well-being and professional fulfillment among healthcare staff within a specialized, high-stress clinical environment. Data analysis employed both descriptive and inferential statistics, revealing a statistically significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and competency post-intervention (p=<.|001|). Success of the educational program suggests that similar initiatives could be effectively integrated into staff onboarding, ongoing education, and quality improvement efforts. The findings reinforce the importance of targeted educational interventions in advancing healthcare provider knowledge and supporting professional development to enhance clinical practice outcomes.
