Abstract

A staff education program was developed and implemented in response to an identified gap in education during the orientation process of leadership. The leadership tier targeted for this education project was at the supervisory level. This doctoral project evaluated if a title-specific educational course would increase leadership knowledge. An education program was developed with six online learning modules and two in-person workshops. Participants were given a pretest of the subject matter material before beginning the course work and a posttest upon completion. Participant scores were only identified by a unique alphabetic letter randomly assigned to each participant at the beginning of the course. The average pretest score was 75%, and the posttest score was 96%. All participants increased their scores with a mean improvement of 21%, indicating there is evidence that the educational course increased subject matter knowledge. The implications of this project are that incorporating a similar title-specific leadership education into the onboarding process can provide leaders with increased knowledge to be more effective in their assigned responsibilities.
