Abstract

This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project aimed to enhance healthcare providers' awareness and knowledge of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in both children and adults through a targeted staff education program. The project addressed the gap in ADHD understanding and management at a healthcare facility, aiming to improve diagnostic accuracy, treatment outcomes, and reduce stigma associated with the disorder. The project implemented an ADHD training program covering the disorder's pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based management strategies. Pre- and post-training assessments indicated a significant increase in staff knowledge, confidence in diagnosing ADHD, and willingness to incorporate learned strategies into practice. Results revealed improvements in staff awareness of ADHD symptoms, medication adherence strategies, and the ability to address stigma. The findings suggest that structured educational interventions can positively influence clinical practices, contributing to better ADHD care and patient outcomes. Despite time constraints limiting the extent of follow-up evaluations, the program demonstrated the potential to reduce misdiagnoses, improve patient care, and promote inclusivity. Future initiatives should integrate ADHD education into routine training to ensure continuous competency development and reduce healthcare disparities in ADHD management.
