Abstract
The client scored low on its National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) 2020 evaluation and needed to improve. A strategic plan was needed to show improvement measures through the lenses of information governance. The practice-focused research questions were: from the client’s perspective, is the practical the automated inventory tool considered a practical solution, and as a measurable improvement been shown according to the evaluation report measures from the National Archives, from the client’s perspective? The purpose of this study was to help the program meet or exceed the defined NARA standards guided by the concept of information governance. The client provided organizational records and provided access to employees for surveys. Comparative analysis was used to measure compliance against records management (RM) program records, and descriptive statistics was used to report the responses of the survey. Findings showed a majority of administrative program compliance in RM and artificial intelligence were implemented and showed that staff shortages contributed to areas of program shortfalls. Recommendations for automated inventory tool use and continuous collaboration between RM and Information Technology and a strategic plan was provided to the organization. The results can impact professional administrative practice by quantifying compliance, which has the potential to result in positive social change through a potential improvement in organizational effectiveness.
